Two Sechelt men have Sunshine Coast search and rescue volunteers to thank after they were rescued last weekend after they were stranded off a logging road in Halfmoon Bay.
On Saturday morning March 24 at 8 a.m. Sunshine Coast RCMP were notified of a call to 911 from two men who informed the dispatcher that they were lost 10 miles north on a logging road off Trout Lake Road in Halfmoon Bay.
“The caller stated that he and his friend had been driving a 4x4 truck on the forest road and that the truck had got stuck in the snow,” said RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Steve Chubey. “The caller had been walking for three hours and he and his friend were cold and needed help. The investigation became complicated when the caller's cell phone ceased to work before any names of the lost men could be given.”
Chubey said Sunshine Coast search and rescue were called in to assist in the search for the missing men. A BC Parks Ranger and a BC Conservation officer also joined the search.
“The men's truck was found by searchers by 9 a.m. Search and rescue volunteers located both men several kilometers up the logging road from their stuck vehicle at 2 p.m.,” said Chubey. “The men were found in deep snow. The two Sechelt men, 30 and 27 years old, were treated at the scene by paramedics for exposure.”
Chubey said the investigators noted that the vehicle was uninsured and the owner was served a violation ticket for operating a vehicle without insurance.
